This is the front and back of the postcard I designed for advertising the 2016 UC San Diego Undergraduate art show.

All I was given in terms of instruction for conceptualizing the artwork was the show's obscure title - "Meeting at Square One".
While struggling to come up with a concept, I had a vision one day, while walking down the stairs to the parking lot of my apartment, of a small square pool with a pale man sitting in it. For some reason, the visual of a square blue pool was extremely compelling, probably because the title and the shape of the pool both referenced the shape of a square. In the first phase of design, I started with the visual of a square pool seen from a diagonal perspective. Every corresponding part of the design spun off from establishing this first shape. Another influence for this design came from Formica tables one might spot in vintage style diners. The faded pastel hues of these tables informed my color scheme.  In my final design, I decided to include one figure upside down in the pool. This, combined with the square dimensions of my design, allows the design to be read while turned in any direction.

I created a checkerboard pattern with pools to take advantage of the extra space of the banner. This was fun because I got to be playful and extend the edges of my design.
